Tinos, Virgin Mary's island is the center of religious worship and art. It is one of the biggest Cycladic islands. Aegean architecture abounds the villages and settlements. The island is considered to be an outdoor museum where its hilltops and gulleys are adorned by small picturesque churches and dovecots respectively and where the windmills and the stone benches are a reminder of yester-years.
 
Tinos Highlights
Monastiri (Convent) The convent of Our Lady of Angels is situated on Mount Kechrovouni which has an altitude of 500m. The Convent’s history dates back over 1000 years and it was here that sister Pelagia was a nun. The Virgin Mary appeared before Sister Pelagia in a vision and showed her the location where Her icon was buried. This is where a church of fine marble was later built in the town of Tinos (Chora).
Xobourgo A large granite rock was a fortress and the capital of Tinos during the Venetian occupation for 500 years. A cobbled pathway leads the visitor to the top, at 600 meters above sea level, offering a panoramic view.
Volax A village built amongst large round rocks. They are considered to be a unique geological phenomenon. In the village, the art of popular basket weaving is still maintained. An outdoor theatre is also situated in the village.
Kolibithra A natural bay with wonderful sandy beaches, located at the northern part of the island. To get there, the visitor drives across Tinos main fertile green plain
Loutra A small village on a hillside west of Xobourgo with a handful of dwellers. It has two catholic monasteries (an Ursuline and a Jesuit monastery), as well as a folklore museum.
Tarambados A large number of dovecots are clustered around the village. The visitor can admire popular architecture since each dovecot is unique and has a personality of its own.
Kardiani One of the most picturesque villages of Tinos. It is built on the island’s south-meridian slope and is surrounded by greenery. It offers an idyllic view and its houses and churches are of particular interest for their island aesthetics.
Pirgos One of the three most beautiful traditional settlements in Greece. It is the birthplace of many artists such as Chalepas, Lytras, Philippotis, etc. The entire village is a folklore
Panormos Pyrgos's sea port. A natural bay with a islet on which a stone lighthouse is preserved, situated at the bay’s gateway. One of the prettiest spots on Tinos
